Keep watch for fur seals, dolphins, Fiordland crested penguins and waterfalls that drop straight from cliff faces into glassy dark water. Find a spot on deck and don’t go inside.

Scottish heritage, Victorian architecture and a thriving student city sit alongside one of the great wildlife experiences in the Southern Hemisphere. Hiking and cycling trails lead across the Otago Peninsula to colonies of albatross, sea lions and the rare yellow-eyed penguin. October is one of the best months to visit as the Peninsula wildlife colonies are active, the hills are green and the city’s celebrated craft beer and food scene is in full swing.

After the devastating 2011 earthquake, the people of this remarkable city rebuilt not just their streets but their entire identity. What has emerged is one of the most creative and energised urban environments in the Southern Hemisphere. Explore the Re:START container market, the stunning Cardboard Cathedral, the Te Papa Otakaro Avon River Precinct and the beautiful Botanic Gardens, all within easy walking distance of the port.

Tauranga is New Zealand’s most sun-drenched city, and one of its most active.
Ride a bush jet boat, go white-water rafting on the Rangitaiki River, or simply enjoy the freshest fish and chips you will ever taste served on the waterfront. The volcanic peak of Mount Maunganui rises above the harbour entrance, and the famous hot salt water pools at its base are the perfect place to ease into a beautiful Bay of Plenty afternoon.

Auckland rewards the curious.
New Zealand’s largest city spreads across a narrow isthmus between two harbours, with 48 dormant volcanic cones dotting the landscape. The Viaduct Harbour is lined with excellent restaurants and bars, the Sky Tower offers views across the entire region, and the ferry to Waiheke Island puts world-class wineries within 35 minutes of the port. A perfect penultimate day before the sail home.
