YOUR ITINERARY
Arrival into Rome marks the start of the holiday, with the afternoon and evening free to settle in before a two-night hotel stay ahead of boarding. First steps into the Eternal City might mean the Trevi Fountain at dusk or a wander through the Trastevere neighbourhood for dinner.
...A full second day in Rome before the ship departs, time enough for the Colosseum and the Roman Forum in the morning and the Vatican Museums or St Peter’s Basilica in the afternoon, at a pace that doesn’t need to rush either.
...Private transfer from hotel to port, then board Azamara Onward, departing Civitavecchia at 6:00 PM.
...The ship is in Amalfi from early morning until late afternoon, time enough amid the dramatic coastal scenery and cliffside villages of the Amalfi Coast.
...From mid-morning to late afternoon in Siracusa, there’s time to explore the city’s Greek ruins and baroque old town on the Sicilian coast.
...The ship reaches Argostoli, gateway to the island of Kefalonia, in the early afternoon and stays into the evening, giving time to take in this quiet corner of the Ionian.
...A full morning and afternoon in Gythion, the picturesque Greek seaside town on the Peloponnese coast.
...An extended stay in Agios Nikolaos runs from early morning right through to evening, plenty of time to take in its scenic harbour and relaxed pace.
...Rhodes gets a long day and evening call, the ship docked from early morning until 10pm for time to properly explore this historic island.
...A full day ashore in Marmaris, Turkey, surrounded by turquoise waters and rugged mountains, the ship in port from morning until early evening.
...A full day in Santorini from morning until early evening, enough time to take in the spectacular caldera views and whitewashed villages.
...Azamara Onward arrives at Piraeus at 5:00 AM and the private transfer to the Athens hotel takes approximately 45 minutes. Two nights in the Greek capital open ahead.
...Two nights in Athens and the city reveals itself in full. The Acropolis in August is best visited before 9am, ahead of the heat and crowds of mid-morning. The Parthenon in the clear early light is the finest version of it available. The Acropolis Museum directly below, one of the finest purpose-built museum buildings in the world, holds the surviving metopes and frieze sections in air-conditioned proximity to the hill above. The Monastiraki flea market, the Plaka neighbourhood’s Byzantine churches and the rooftop restaurants of Thissio with views of the illuminated Acropolis give the evenings their Athens character.
...A final Athens morning before the airport transfer. Thirteen nights have covered the Amalfi Coast, the Greek ruins of Siracusa, the Ionian Islands, the Peloponnese coast, Crete, Rhodes at leisure, the Turkish Aegean and Santorini before four days in Rome and Athens at either end. Ask your Cruiseabout specialist about extending your Athens stay before flying home.
