YOUR ITINERARY
Arrive in Rome and settle into your hotel. Head out for an evening walk to the Trevi Fountain and Piazza Navona, then find dinner in the lanes of Trastevere.
...A free day for the big sights. Start early at the Colosseum and Roman Forum, or tour the Vatican Museums and Sistine Chapel. Book either ahead because both sell out.
...Your private transfer takes you from your Rome hotel to Civitavecchia, about 80km north-west of the city. Board MSC World Europa, find your stateroom and watch the Italian coast slide away as you sail.
...Palma’s Gothic cathedral overlooks the waterfront, and its rose window is among the largest of its kind. The old town’s lanes lead to cafes and tapas bars, and Bellver Castle sits on the hill above with its circular courtyard.
...See the Sagrada Família, Gaudí’s unfinished basilica, then walk La Rambla to the Boqueria market for a tapas lunch. Spend the afternoon in the Gothic Quarter, where the lanes open onto small plazas.
...France’s oldest port city. Start at the Old Port, then climb to the Notre-Dame de la Garde basilica for views over the harbour. The Le Panier district behind it is full of colourful lanes and small galleries. Aix-en-Provence, Cézanne’s birthplace, is about 30km inland.
...Explore the old town, a dense network of medieval alleys lined with palazzi built by wealthy merchant families, some now museums. The Via Garibaldi palaces hold the city’s best art collections, and the harbour aquarium is a good wet-weather option. Portofino is a short trip south if you want a harbour village lunch.
...The highlight for many guests. Take the train to Cinque Terre, five pastel clifftop villages on the UNESCO World Heritage list, and walk between them or travel by boat. Stay in La Spezia instead and you’ll find a relaxed waterfront and a good lunch.
...Disembark in Civitavecchia. Your package ends here. Ask your Cruiseabout consultant about extra nights in Rome or onward travel.
