The vast, humbling silence of the open ocean as the ship crosses the International Date Line. And then New Zealand’s green coastline appearing on the horizon, before the journey ends in the most spectacular fashion possible, gliding into Sydney Harbour at dawn, the Opera House catching the first light of morning. This 20-night Pacific crossing aboard Celebrity Solstice is the kind of voyage that stays with you for a lifetime.

YOUR ITINERARY
Your Pacific odyssey begins in Honolulu – where the scent of plumeria drifts through warm evening air and the Pacific stretches away in every direction. Check into your 4-star hotel and let Hawaii set the mood. Waikiki Beach, Diamond Head, the legendary sunsets over the Pacific – there is no better place to begin a journey of this magnitude.
...A full free day in one of the Pacific’s great island cities. The North Shore, Pearl Harbor, the lush Manoa Valley, a long lunch on the beach – or simply the pleasure of watching the Hawaiian surf roll in while the adventure ahead slowly takes shape.
...Your private transfer delivers you to the port this afternoon, where Celebrity Solstice is waiting. Board, explore the ship and find your sea legs as she departs Honolulu at 7:00 PM – the lights of Oahu fading behind you as the vast South Pacific opens up ahead.
...Five days of open ocean ahead as Celebrity Solstice leaves Hawaii behind and heads southwest toward French Polynesia. The Pacific at this latitude in late September is warm, deep blue and alive with flying fish breaking the surface in the mornings. This is the crossing experience that ocean travel was always about. The Lawn Club’s half-acre of real grass, the Solarium, the Hot Glass Show and the Tuscan Grill are all at their finest when there is nothing on the horizon and five days to enjoy them.
...A second sea day and the Pacific is fully in possession of every horizon. There is no land in any direction, which is one of the rarest and most genuinely quieting experiences available to most travellers. The Cellar Masters wine tasting programme, the Silk Harvest Asian restaurant and the Sunset Bar at dusk are all excellent companions for a day as unhurried as this one.
...Halfway between Hawaii and French Polynesia, the Pacific has a particular quality. The trade winds are steady, the swell is long and regular, the sky in the late afternoon turns from blue to gold to violet without any artificial interruption. The Lawn Club is a genuinely unusual and pleasant place to be on a warm Pacific afternoon. The Hot Glass Show runs this afternoon and is worth attending.
...French Polynesia is two days away and the anticipation is building. The colour of the water has begun to shift from the deep blue of the open Pacific to a lighter, warmer turquoise as the sea floor rises toward the Society Islands chain. Dolphins are occasionally visible from the upper decks at this latitude, drawn to the ship’s wake in the morning.
...A final sea day before Moorea appears tomorrow. Five days of open ocean have given Celebrity Solstice the time to become familiar: the rhythm of the ship, the favourite bar stool, the table by the window at breakfast. Tomorrow all of that gives way to one of the most beautiful islands in the world. Tonight is worth a reservation at Murano for the finest dinner of the crossing.
...After five days at sea, Moorea appears like a vision – jagged volcanic peaks draped in jungle green, the lagoon below impossibly turquoise, the air warm and fragrant. An extended stay until 10:00 PM gives you a full day and a long evening on one of the most beautiful islands in the world. Snorkel the lagoon, explore the pineapple fields, find a quiet motu and simply sit with a cold drink and the view.
...Papeete is French Polynesia’s vibrant capital – a colourful, lively port city where the produce market, the waterfront promenade and the Black Pearl jewellery shops vie for your attention. Another extended evening stay means you can experience the city across the full arc of the day, from the morning market bustle to the evening roulotte food trucks setting up along the waterfront.
...The sacred island of Raiatea is considered the spiritual heart of French Polynesia – the legendary birthplace of Polynesian culture and the departure point for the great canoe voyages that settled the Pacific. Ten hours ashore reveals an island of quiet beauty and deep historical resonance, from the ancient marae temple of Taputapuatea to the calm, reef-protected lagoon it shares with neighbouring Taha’a.
...Two restful days at sea as Celebrity Solstice heads southwest from French Polynesia. The rhythm of ocean cruising reasserts itself after the intensity of Moorea, Papeete and Raiatea, and the spa, the pool and long lunches are all excellent antidotes. The International Date Line is approaching and the crossing will happen sometime in the next 36 hours.
...The International Date Line crossing happens today or tomorrow depending on Celebrity Solstice’s precise position. The captain will announce the exact moment. The crossing is at 180 degrees longitude, the line that divides yesterday from today, and the ship crosses it heading from east to west which means a day is skipped rather than repeated on this westward crossing. New Zealand lies ahead and the Southern Hemisphere winter is turning to spring.
...A day that happens twice – or not at all, depending on how you look at it. Crossing the International Date Line is one of the great curiosities of ocean travel, a moment where the calendar bends and the Pacific reminds you just how vast it is. Celebrate accordingly.
...The final sea days before New Zealand appears on the horizon. Celebrity Solstice’s restaurants, entertainment and open decks are all yours as the ship makes her southward way toward the Land of the Long White Cloud.
...Tauranga arrives tomorrow and New Zealand’s coastline appears on the port side during the afternoon. The green hills and volcanic cones of the North Island are immediately distinctive and give the arrival a character quite different from the reef-fringed low-lying islands of French Polynesia left behind a week ago. Tonight is worth an early dinner on the Sunset Bar terrace as the New Zealand coast draws closer.
...Tauranga is the principal port of the Bay of Plenty, New Zealand’s most productive horticultural region, and the city has a warmth and energy that reflects both the subtropical climate and the prosperity of the surrounding region. The Mount Maunganui beach suburb across the harbour, with its volcanic cone walking track and excellent surf beach, is accessible within minutes of the port. Rotorua, 60 kilometres inland, is the geothermal heart of New Zealand, its boiling mud pools, geyser fields and Maori cultural programme making it one of the most distinctive experiences in the country. The Waimangu Volcanic Valley and the Waitomo glowworm caves are both accessible by day tour for those wanting to go deeper into the North Island’s extraordinary natural character. Ten hours gives genuine time to reach any of these options and return with time to spare.
...New Zealand’s largest city sits on an isthmus between two harbours, its skyline dominated by the Sky Tower and its neighbourhoods defined by volcanic cones, beautiful beaches and a thriving food and arts scene. Eleven hours in Auckland is a generous introduction – the waterfront, the Viaduct, Ponsonby Road, or a ferry across to Waiheke Island for wine and views.
...The Bay of Islands is one of New Zealand’s most treasured destinations – 144 islands scattered across a sheltered subtropical bay of extraordinary natural beauty. Nine hours ashore opens up the possibility of dolphin watching, sailing between islands, visiting the historic town of Russell, or exploring Waitangi, where New Zealand’s founding treaty was signed in 1840.
...The final two days at sea as Celebrity Solstice makes her way across the Tasman toward Australia. A time for reflection, for one last long dinner, for watching the Southern Cross from the open deck as the journey draws toward its remarkable conclusion.
...A final sea day and Sydney arrives tomorrow morning. The Australian coastline will appear on the port side by late afternoon, the New South Wales headlands and surf beaches of the mid-north coast giving way to the Central Coast as the ship approaches Sydney. Set an alarm for dawn tomorrow. You do not want to miss the harbour entrance.
...There is no finer way to arrive in Australia than by sea at dawn – Sydney Harbour opening up around you, the Opera House and Harbour Bridge emerging from the morning light as Celebrity Solstice glides in. Twenty nights, three oceans, one extraordinary journey. Welcome home.
