When you cruise from Shanghai, check the essential items off the to-do list: See the classical architecture of the Bund neighborhood and walk among the smell of tea and incense in the fortified Old City. Then, if you have extra time, see the nearby Qibao Ancient Town — check out the pagoda-like bell tower, see Qibao Template (it dates back to the 900s) and snap pics of the photogenic bridges and buildings along the Puhui River.

Naha, the capital and largest city of Okinawa Prefecture, boasts a unique Japanese culture. As the region’s transportation hub, Naha connects travelers with other parts of Okinawa, Japan and Asia; consequently, Okinawans have grown accustomed to openly sharing their distinctive customs with visitors from all over the world – right down to their very own dialect, Uchinaguchi.

YOUR SHIP - The Spectrum Of The Seas
Spectrum of the Seas is one of Royal Caribbean’s Quantum Class ships, built for the days you’re not in port as much as the days you are. RipCord by iFly puts you in a vertical wind tunnel for an indoor skydiving session, no licence or experience needed. North Star lifts you in a glass capsule more than 300 feet above the water for a view over the ship and whatever coastline you’re passing. Seaplex is the largest indoor active space at sea, with bumper cars, roller skating and a basketball court all under one roof, useful on the sea days when the weather doesn’t cooperate. In the evenings, Two70 shifts from a daytime lounge with wraparound ocean views into a venue for aerial and light shows after dark.
Casino Royale covers the tables and pokies, while the ship’s theatre runs a full production schedule through the cruise. Boleros brings a Latin lounge vibe most evenings, and there’s a dedicated children’s club for the family end of things.
Onboard dining runs from casual to a proper night out. Grab a coffee or light bite at Cafe Promenade, or book ahead for Chops Grille’s steaks or Jamie Oliver’s Italian menu at Jamie’s Italian. Johnny Rockets covers the classic American diner fix, and the poolside bar and Vintages wine bar are both worth knowing about for sundowners.
The Vitality Spa and fitness centre anchor the wellness side, with a whirlpool and day spa on hand for slower days at sea.
Beyond Seaplex and North Star, there’s a rock climbing wall, FlowRider surf simulator and a golf simulator, along with a library and card room for a quieter afternoon. Adventure Ocean keeps younger guests entertained with its own dedicated youth facilities.
A full gym and fitness centre cover the basics, with a jogging track and open deck sports space for basketball and volleyball if you’d rather train outdoors.
