A languid first day at sea, the Gulf of Thailand unfolding around you. The spa, the pool deck – take your pick. There is nowhere to be and nothing to do but enjoy it.

Ko Samui makes an immediate impression – powdery sand, warm turquoise water and the swaying palms of a tropical island that has somehow managed to hold onto its charm. Ten hours ashore is enough to find a quiet beach, visit the famous Big Buddha, and sample some of Thailand’s finest street food before returning aboard.

The city that was once Saigon does not slow down for anyone.
