Glasgow, Scotland to Reykjavík

In the heart of the Clyde Valley, the bustling city of Glasgow contrasts starkly with the wild beauty of the surrounding countryside. Djúpivogur is a small town and municipality located on a peninsula in the Austurland in eastern Iceland. The coastline consists of three magnificent fjords, Berufjörður, Hamarsfjörður, and Álftafjörður which create a striking landscape to explore. On land, the town is shadowed by Búlandstindur, a pyramid-shaped basalt mountain peaking at 1069 m, making for an incredible sight. Numerous local legends surround this mountain, which is said to grant wishes during the summer solstice.

About 12 km off the coast lie a group of volcanic islands and islets comprising the Vestman Archipelago. Only the biggest one Heimaey is inhabited, the main attractions being the fishing port, a stunning landscape and of course the volcanoes. The wildlife is fantastic, as no fewer than 34 bird species live here including the unmistakable puffin.

Encircled by mountains and the sea, Reykjavik is minutes away from Iceland’s unspoiled rugged nature as the presence of arctic terns, wild geese and ducks in the city centre can testify. You will be fascinated by the natural sites and exceptional geology which surround the Icelandic capital.
