Just seven miles from the city centre, the harbour-town of Zeebrugge is the gateway to Bruges for Cunard voyages. Skjolden is a serene village nestled among mountains. You’ll arrive there via Sognefjord, the world’s longest navigable fjord, putting you at the heart of Norway’s majestic scenery.
Skjolden itself actually sits within the Lusterfjord, an arm of the Sognefjord, and your arrival is truly mesmerising. Forested slopes lead down towards the still waters, summer meadows and fruit-bearing farmlands extend from their edge in patchworks of brilliant green, made so vibrant by the melt water of two glaciers. These are Nigardsbreen, which resembles a river frozen in full flow, and Jostedalbreen, the largest glacier in continental Europe.

Few regions are as wild and unspoilt as Iceland’s Westfjords. With miles of mountains and few-and-far-between roads, venturing here evokes the feeling of entering unchartered terrain. The landscape is dramatic and approaching by sea offers the perfect chance to absorb the scenery before setting foot on land. The most enchanting attraction of this area perhaps is the peace, stillness and calm it emanates. Embrace local life in Ísafjörður town or visit the charming nearby village of Flateyri. Further afield you can sail to Vigur, home to Iceland’s last remaining windmill, where time has seemingly stood still and boat is the only connection to the world outside.
