YOUR ITINERARY

Day 1
25th Jun 2027
London

London is one of the world’s great cities and three nights here before boarding Azamara Quest gives you genuine time to explore it properly. June in London means long evenings, outdoor dining and the city at its most vibrant and green. The South Bank along the Thames, the National Gallery, Borough Market and the Tower of London are all within easy reach of most central hotels. The West End theatre district is at its peak summer season programme. Westminster’s Parliament buildings and the Changing of the Guard at Buckingham Palace are both accessible in the morning before the crowds build. Use the first evening to find your bearings in one of Europe’s most rewarding cities before the Baltic adventure begins.

...
Day 2
26th Jun 2027
London

A full day in London and the city opens its less-visited layers for those willing to move beyond the main landmarks. The Victoria and Albert Museum holds the finest collection of decorative arts in the world, covering 5,000 years of human creativity across 145 galleries. The Natural History Museum beside it is architecturally one of the most beautiful Victorian buildings in England. Notting Hill’s Portobello Road market operates every Saturday and the nearby Golborne Road antiques strip is excellent on weekday mornings. The Tate Modern on the South Bank is always worth a morning and the walk across Millennium Bridge from St Paul’s Cathedral gives the finest river view in the city.

...
Day 3
27th Jun 2027
London

A final day in London before tomorrow’s transfer to the port at Tilbury. Greenwich, accessible by Uber Boat along the Thames, holds the Royal Observatory where the prime meridian crosses, the Cutty Sark tea clipper and the National Maritime Museum, all within walking distance of each other and all relevant context for a Baltic voyage that follows in the wake of centuries of seafarers who departed from this same river. The East End neighbourhood of Shoreditch and Spitalfields, with its street art, independent restaurants and the restored Victorian covered market at Old Spitalfields, represents the contemporary London that most visitors never find. The private transfer to Tilbury tomorrow morning takes approximately 45 minutes.

...
Day 4
28th Jun 2027
London, Tilbury Embarkation

Your private transfer takes you from the hotel to Tilbury Docks this morning, where Azamara Quest is docked and ready for boarding. Tilbury, on the Thames Estuary east of London, has been a major departure point for British maritime history since the 16th century. Queen Elizabeth I famously addressed the troops here before the Spanish Armada in 1588. Board in the morning and watch the Thames Estuary open out into the North Sea as the ship heads northeast toward Amsterdam. The North Sea crossing takes overnight and the Netherlands arrives tomorrow morning.

...
Day 5
29th Jun 2027
Amsterdam

Amsterdam has more canals than Venice, more bridges than any other European city and a personality unlike anywhere else in the world. The Rijksmuseum’s collection of Dutch Golden Age painting — Rembrandt’s Night Watch, Vermeer’s The Milkmaid and an extraordinary breadth of 17th-century maritime painting — is among the finest art collections in Europe. The Anne Frank House on the Prinsengracht canal, where Otto Frank hid his family for two years before their betrayal in 1944, is one of the most emotionally powerful memorial sites in the world and essential for anyone visiting Amsterdam for the first time. The canal ring, a UNESCO World Heritage landscape of 17th-century merchant houses built on wooden piles over 165 canals, is best experienced by rented bike or canal boat in the June light. The Bloemenmarkt, the world’s only floating flower market, and the Albert Cuyp street market in the De Pijp neighbourhood complete an Amsterdam day that rewards every hour spent in it.

...
Day 6
30th Jun 2027
Kiel Canal

The Kiel Canal crossing is one of the most distinctive sea days in European cruising: a 98-kilometre transit through northern Germany connecting the North Sea to the Baltic, cutting across the base of the Jutland Peninsula and saving ships the 900-kilometre journey around Denmark. The canal, opened in 1895, is one of the busiest artificial waterways in the world, and watching the flat agricultural landscape of Schleswig-Holstein pass on both sides from the deck of Azamara Quest, with other vessels visible in both directions throughout the transit, gives a vivid sense of maritime infrastructure operating at continental scale. The lush forests, farmland, small villages and the lifting bridges that raise to allow the ships through are a genuinely pleasant way to spend a sea day. The canal transit typically takes 7 to 9 hours and the ship emerges into the Baltic Sea at Kiel-Holtenau.

...
Day 7
1st Jul 2027
Berlin (Warnemunde)

Warnemunde is Azamara Quest’s port for Berlin, a 2.5-hour journey by train from the resort town on the Baltic coast. The train is the most convenient way into the capital and the journey through the flat Mecklenburg landscape gives way to the outer suburbs and then the extraordinary heart of a reunited city. Berlin rewards a full day’s engagement with both its devastating history and its remarkable contemporary culture. The Memorial to the Murdered Jews of Europe, the Brandenburg Gate, the rebuilt Reichstag dome and the East Side Gallery — the longest surviving section of the Berlin Wall covered in murals — all sit within a coherent geographical area that can be covered on foot or by bike. Checkpoint Charlie, the DDR Museum and the Topography of Terror documentation centre give the Cold War era its full context. The contemporary Berlin of Prenzlauer Berg, Mitte and Kreuzberg, with its galleries, restaurants and the food market at Markthalle Neun, represents a city that has processed its history and built something remarkable in its place.

...
Day 8
2nd Jul 2027
Ronne, Bornholm

Bornholm is a Danish island in the Baltic that has somehow ended up geographically closer to Sweden and Poland than to Denmark, and its isolation has given it a distinctly self-sufficient character and a food culture that punches well above its size. The island’s round churches are unique in Scandinavia: four medieval fortified round towers built in the 12th century and used simultaneously as places of worship and as defensive refuges, their interiors covered in frescoes of extraordinary detail. Ronne, the capital, is a garden town of half-timbered houses and backyard plots that feels genuinely unhurried and unpackaged for tourism in a way that the main Scandinavian cities no longer can. The smoked herring from the island’s traditional smokehouses, eaten with dark rye bread and mustard directly from the fisherman’s papers, is the most honest culinary experience on this entire voyage.

...
Day 9
3rd Jul 2027
Gdansk (Gdynia), Poland

Gdansk is one of the most historically significant cities on the Baltic coast: the city where the Second World War began with the German bombardment of the Polish garrison at Westerplatte on 1 September 1939, and the city where the Cold War effectively ended with the Solidarity trade union movement that Lech Walesa led from the Lenin Shipyard in 1980. These two moments of world-historical significance, separated by 40 years, occurred in the same city and the contrast between the gothic merchant splendour of the Long Market, the St Mary’s Church and the Green Gate and the functional concrete of the shipyard gate where Solidarity was born is the essential Gdansk experience. St Mary’s Church, the largest brick church in the world with a 77-metre tower and interior space for 25,000 worshippers, anchors the reconstructed old town. The Amber Museum, the National Museum in the former Franciscan monastery and the extraordinary facade of the Great Arsenal are all within easy walking distance of the waterfront where Azamara Quest docks.

...
Day 10
4th Jul 2027
Klaipeda, Lithuania

Klaipeda is Lithuania’s only port city and its most German-inflected, its half-timbered old town architecture, the Theatre Square and the museum housed in the remnants of Memelburg Castle all bearing witness to centuries of Prussian and then German presence that ended definitively only in 1945. The city’s position at the mouth of the Curonian Lagoon, separated from the Baltic by the extraordinary Curonian Spit — a 98-kilometre sand dune peninsula shared between Lithuania and the Russian exclave of Kaliningrad and a UNESCO World Heritage Site — gives it a geographic drama unusual in a small port town. The old warehouses along the Dane River have been converted into the city’s most characterful restaurants and the fish stew with dark black bread that defines Klaipeda’s traditional cuisine is the right lunch before returning to the ship.

...
Day 11
5th Jul 2027
Riga

Riga is the largest city in the Baltic states and one of the most architecturally distinctive in Northern Europe, its Art Nouveau quarter containing more Art Nouveau buildings per square kilometre than any other city in the world. The architect Mikhail Eisenstein, father of the filmmaker, designed the most extraordinary facades in the district: four-storey buildings decorated with the faces of femmes fatales, gargoyles, lions, medusas and stylised natural forms in a profusion that makes the streets of the Alberta and Elizabetes iela feel like walking through a fever dream of early 20th-century confidence. The Old Town’s UNESCO World Heritage medieval core, the Latvian National Museum of Art and the Central Market, housed in five former German zeppelin hangars from the First World War, represent three completely different Rigas in a single full day.

...
Day 12
6th Jul 2027
Cruising At Sea

A sea day in the Baltic between Riga and Tallinn, and the light at this latitude in July is extraordinary — long and golden from early morning, the sun barely setting before rising again. The Gulf of Riga narrows toward the Estonian coast as the ship makes its overnight crossing. Tallinn arrives tomorrow and the destination briefing on Estonia’s Singing Revolution of 1988, the massive choral demonstration against Soviet rule that set the country on the path to independence, gives essential context for the medieval capital ahead.

...
Day 13
7th Jul 2027
Tallinn

Tallinn is the best-preserved medieval city in Northern Europe and one of the most beautiful old towns on this entire voyage, its limestone towers and terracotta rooftops rising directly from the Baltic shore largely unchanged since the Hanseatic trading era. St Olav’s Church, at 159 metres the tallest building in the world from 1549 to 1625, still dominates the skyline. Toompea Hill above the old town holds the ancient castle and the Russian Orthodox Alexander Nevsky Cathedral, its onion domes a deliberate statement of imperial power placed directly opposite the Estonian parliament building. The town square, heart of the city for 800 years, is lined with medieval merchant houses now operating as restaurants and craft shops. St Catherine’s Passage, the quaint covered lane lined with artisan workshops, and the secret 17th-century tunnel system beneath the old town are both worth finding.

...
Day 14
8th Jul 2027
Helsinki

Helsinki is one of the most architecturally cohesive capitals in Europe, its waterfront and city centre designed almost entirely in the neoclassical style between 1812 and 1850, giving it a grandeur and internal consistency that older, more layered capitals rarely achieve. Senate Square, with the Lutheran Cathedral rising above the harbour market and the Russian Orthodox Uspenski Cathedral visible on the headland to the east, captures the city’s dual heritage in a single view. The Temppeliaukio Rock Church, blasted directly into a granite outcrop in 1969 and covered by a copper dome, is the most distinctive religious building in Scandinavia. The Helsinki food market hall at Hakaniemi and the outdoor market at the harbour are both excellent introductions to Finnish food culture. Nokia, Marimekko and the Finnish design tradition are best explored at the Design Museum and the galleries of the Design District south of the city centre.

...
Day 15
9th Jul 2027
Stockholm

Stockholm arrives on Day 15 and the two-night stay gives Azamara Quest passengers something most cruise visits to this city cannot offer: time to move past the obvious attractions into the city’s deeper pleasures. Stockholm is built across 14 islands where Lake Malaren meets the Baltic Sea, and the approach by ship into the archipelago, with 30,000 islands of granite and pine stretching 80 kilometres out to sea before the city itself appears, is one of the great maritime arrivals in European cruising. The Gamla Stan old town, with its medieval street plan of narrow lanes, the Royal Palace and the Nobel Museum, gives the city its historical anchor. The Vasa Museum, housing the fully intact 17th-century warship that sank on her maiden voyage in 1628 and was raised from the harbour mud in 1961, is the single most visited museum in Scandinavia and one of the finest museum experiences in the world. The ABBA Museum on Djurgarden island is either the highlight or the guilty pleasure of the voyage depending on one’s relationship with the music, but it is genuinely well done.

...
Day 16
10th Jul 2027
Stockholm

A second full day in Stockholm and the city opens its less obvious layers. Sodermalm, the island south of the old town known as SoFo (South of Folkungagatan), is Stockholm’s most creative neighbourhood: the Fotografiska Museum of photography, the independent restaurant scene of Hornstull and the vintage shops and galleries of Mariatorget make for an excellent morning. The Djurgarden island museum complex, within walking distance or a short ferry ride from the city centre, holds the Skansen open-air museum with its historic Swedish buildings assembled from across the country, alongside the Nordic Museum and the Vasa Museum. The Royal Palace’s changing of the guard ceremony at noon is one of the finest in Scandinavia and worth timing the day around.

...
Day 17
11th Jul 2027
Cruising At Sea

A sea day crossing the Oresund and entering the Kattegat as Azamara Quest heads south toward Copenhagen. The strait between Sweden and Denmark, spanned by the Oresund Bridge at its southern end, is one of the most historically significant maritime passages in Northern Europe and the site of the Battle of the Oresund in 1658, one of the largest naval engagements in Scandinavian history. Copenhagen is just hours ahead and the voyage draws toward its conclusion. The Prime C and Aqualina are both worth a reservation for a final sea day evening before disembarkation.

...
Day 18
12th Jul 2027
Copenhagen

Azamara Quest arrives in Copenhagen and your private transfer takes you to your included 2-night hotel. Copenhagen is the most liveable and arguably most beautiful capital in Scandinavia, and two nights here give genuine time to explore beyond the obvious. Nyhavn, the 17th-century canal lined with colourful painted townhouses and sailing boats, is the most photographed corner of the city and at its finest in the long July evening light. The Tivoli Gardens, the world’s second oldest amusement park and the inspiration for Disneyland, opens in the summer season with rides, restaurants, concerts and gardens within the city centre. The Latin Quarter around the Round Tower observatory gives the finest elevated view of Copenhagen’s medieval core.

...
Day 19
13th Jul 2027
Copenhagen

A final full day in Copenhagen before departure tomorrow. The Louisiana Museum of Modern Art, 35 kilometres north of the city on the Oresund coast, combines world-class contemporary art with sculpture gardens that run directly to the sea and is one of the finest art experiences in Northern Europe. The National Museum of Denmark on Ny Vestergade covers 14,000 years of Danish history with exceptional clarity. The Frederiksberg Gardens, the formal baroque park surrounding the Frederiksberg Palace above the city, are at their most lush in July. The Torvehallerne food market near Norrebro, the Meatpacking District’s bars and restaurants and the Michelin-starred restaurant concentration of the Vesterbro neighbourhood all represent different versions of why Copenhagen consistently ranks among the finest food cities in the world.

...
Day 20
14th Jul 2027
Copenhagen

Your Baltic Capitals and Coastal Castles journey concludes this morning in Copenhagen with your transfer to Copenhagen Airport. Nineteen nights have covered London’s summer city, the Dutch canal culture of Amsterdam, the Kiel Canal’s engineering marvel, Berlin’s layered history, Bornholm’s medieval island character, Gdansk’s pivotal European significance, the Baltic states’ extraordinary capitals of Klaipeda, Riga and Tallinn, Helsinki’s architectural precision, two days in Stockholm’s island city and two nights in one of Europe’s most liveable capitals. Ask your Cruiseabout specialist about extending your Copenhagen stay before flying home.
