General Information

  • Currency - the local currency in Hobart is the Australian dollar. Coins come in 5, 10, 20 and 50 cent and $1 and $2 denominations. Notes come in $5, $10, $20, $50 and $100 denominations.
  • Time Zone - Hobart uses Australian Eastern Standard Time. It is 10 hours ahead of Coordinated Universal Time (UTC).  
  • Weather - Hobart has a mild, temperate, maritime climate, and is often cool and cloudy. Average temperatures range from 21° Celsius in summer (December to February) to 12° Celsius in winter (June to August). The city itself is exposed to southerly Antarctic winds, though it is protected by Mount Wellington from the worst westerly weather.

Open every Saturday and nestled among the sandstone buildings of Salamanca Place, this market is the ideal gateway to Hobart’s vibrant cultural scene. 
  • Wellington Park - travel out to Wellington Park and experience stunning views from atop Mount Wellington. A popular activity for visitors, the journey up Pinnacle Road is easily accessible from Hobart CBD. There’s a range of activities to enjoy – everything from gentle bush-walking to adventurous 4-wheel driving. 
  • MONA - located only 15 minutes from the Hobart Cruise Terminal, David Walsh’s privately owned Museum of Old and New Art (MONA) has drawn critical acclaim for its exciting and often provocative exhibitions. MONA offers an impressive range of contemporary art, large-scale installations, emerging works from young artists and a French-inspired restaurant. 
  • Tasmanian Museum and Art Gallery - walk just 500 metres from the terminal to the Tasmanian Museum and Art Gallery. Exhibiting a diverse range of historical, scientific and artistic collections, the museum also boasts amazingly preserved animals like the 150 kilogram giant squid that washed ashore at Ocean Beach in 2007.

Port Location

Only 800 metres from the Hobart CBD and just 17 kilometres from the airport, the Hobart Cruise Terminal boasts a very convenient location. The terminal lies within walking distance of a range of transport services, as well as the renowned cultural precinct of Salamanca Place and the Tasmanian Travel & Tourism Centre.

The Hobart Cruise Terminal has a range of facilities both on-site and nearby at the designated meeting point at Macquarie Wharf No. 2. This ensures a smooth arrival for travelling cruise passengers.

How to Get Around

There are several ways of travelling to and from the Hobart Cruise Terminal. It is within walking distance of all main transport services.

Car hire services should be booked in advance and are available for pick-up outside the terminal. Several cruise lines operate tour bus services from the terminal, ensuring easy access to Hobart CBD and other areas.
