Viking to Reinvent Ocean Cruising
Viking Cruises is renowned as one of the premier river cruise lines throughout Europe, but in April 2015, the line took its destination-focused philosophy and applied it to the world of ocean cruising, creating the Viking Ocean Cruises line. In September 2016, further expansion is on the horizon, with the introduction of five new itineraries around the Caribbean and North America aboard the Viking Star cruise ship.
A Star is Born - Take a sneak peak:
The Sleek Viking Star
As a small ship, the Viking Star can access intimate and far-flung destinations that the super-liners of other cruise lines simply cannot. The size also ensures that passengers can easily embark and disembark at each stop, with itineraries that allow guests to have ample time to immerse themselves in the local art, history and culture. This experience is then enhanced by shore excursions run by local guides and an onboard cultural enrichment program, where guests can enjoy interesting lectures about each destination. With this in mind, there’s no wondering why the Viking Star was named the ‘Best New Ocean Ship’ in the 2015 Cruise Critics Editors’ Picks Awards!
In the Wake of the Vikings
It’s believed that Viking explorer Leif Eriksson actually discovered the North American continent five centuries before Columbus, and the Viking Star will follow Eriksson’s journey on its first voyage across the Atlantic, starting in Norway and sailing through Scotland, Iceland and Greenland before finishing in Montreal. This cruise, ‘In the Wake of the Vikings’, runs for 15 days and will depart on September 18, 2016. The Viking Star’s next voyage ‘Eastern Seaboard Explorer’ on October 2 will then see it travel over 13 days from Montreal to New York, enjoying the fall foliage and rich history of a number of ports, including Quebec, Edward Island and Boston.

Eastern Seaboard to the West Indies
From New York, the Viking Star will then trace the Atlantic Seaboard and stop at a number of tropical islands and bustling cities on its way down to the Caribbean. The 15-night ‘Eastern Seaboard to the West Indies’ cruise will finish in San Juan, Puerto Rico, which will then serve as the ship’s home port for the winter months.
West Indies Explorer
The Viking Star’s ‘West Indies Explorer’ itinerary that departs from San Juan will focus on exceeding expectations and supplying travellers with an alternative to the larger ships that typically cruise the region. On this cruise, guests will have 11 days on board where they will sail to the natural wonders of Antigua and the rich rainforest of Guadeloupe, as well as many other colonial treasures and historic cities. On February 25, 2017, the Viking Star will then begin its journey back home to Europe via Portugal, Morocco and Spain on the 18-day ‘West Indies to Iberia’ cruise.
