A Rundown of MSC’s New Ship MSC Meraviglia
Christened in early June by screen legend Sophia Loren, the spectacular MSC Meraviglia set sail on its maiden voyage of the Mediterranean later in the same month. This brand-new addition to the cruising world and MSC Cruises family had been highly anticipated – and with the features highlighted below, it’s not hard to see why.
The MSC Meraviglia will spend its maiden season in the Mediterranean, taking passengers on 7-night voyages to incredible destinations in France, Italy, Spain and Malta. In 2018, the ship will explore Northern Europe before homeporting in Miami in 2019.

The MSC Meraviglia is 23% bigger than MSC Cruises’ last two ships and boasts a large array of facilities and amenities. The heart of the ship, the Galleria Meraviglia, is a two-deck, 96-metre central promenade lined by boutiques, restaurants and other eateries. Here you’ll find the Kaito Sushi Bar, Butcher’s Cut, Ristorante Italiano and the Mini Mall. The promenade’s dome ceiling, a 480-square-metre LED screen, is the longest LED dome at sea and displays sunrises, sunsets and a star-filled night sky.
In the technology-packed Carousel Lounge, which can accommodate up to 450 guests, passengers will have the opportunity to see two original performances by Cirque du Soleil, the global leader in theatrical productions. These shows are performed twice every night, six nights a week, and boast a unique combination of story, costumes, make-up and acrobatics.
The MSC Meraviglia’s Polar Aquapark is one of the most exhilarating water parks at sea, with three twisting tube slides, a range of pools and a ‘Himalayan Bridge’. This rope walkway hangs over the water park, 82 metres above the sea, and features obstacles with varying difficulty levels.
Other attractions that will keep guests enthralled include a full-sized bowling alley, two F1 simulators and the TV Studio and Bar, which serves as a karaoke bar, comedy club and more.
Restaurants and bars
Aboard the MSC Meraviglia, there’s a huge abundance of places to eat, drink and relax. There are 12 distinct dining venues to choose from, including Butcher’s Cut, an American-style steakhouse serving prime cuts, and the Marketplace Buffet, which is open 20 hours each day. The Jean-Phillipe Maury Chocolaterie showcases the award-winning pâtissier’s sweet masterpieces, while his ice-cream and crepe creations are served up nearby.
When it comes to beverages, there’s several bars to choose from, including the Champagne Bar. Situated off the promenade, this ship hotspot boasts a variety of champagne and prosecco, along with caviar, oysters and crab.
The larger-than-life MSC Meraviglia has a wide variety of elegant staterooms for guests to choose from, including family options catering for up to 10 people and duplex suites with a private whirlpool. The vessel also boasts the highest ratio of sea-view balcony cabins of any cruise ship.
