Princess Cruises 50th Anniversary Celebrations

Posted November 3rd, 2014

Next year Princess Cruises is celebrating their 50th Anniversary, and they are including all of their guests in their celebrations. Princess Cruises first set sail in 1965 with a single ship cruising to Mexico, and nearly 50 years later, the line has grown to become the third largest cruise line in the world, travelling to some of the most fascinating places around the world. And to celebrate this achievement, they want YOU to be involved.

So, if you have booked a 2015 cruise with Princess, or are still thinking about it, here is what you can expect on cruises throughout this milestone year:

Love Boat Disco Parties

To honour the iconic role that the popular TV show, The Love Boat, played in the cruise lines history, a new Love Boat Disco Party will be held onboard each cruise. The 70’s themed party will come with a few surprises, but the things we can reveal include messages from the original cast, special montages from the show, a Love Boat sing-a-long and show trivia, 70’s music videos and a live kiss cam. There will also be an onboard production number celebrating the show, a celebration of weddings and anniversaries of guests onboard, photo opportunities with a Love Boat life ring, dancing and a party band.

The Love Boat played an important role in Princes Cruises last 50 years.

Festive Food

One night on every cruise will have a souvenir menu presented in the Main Dining room, featuring commemorative dishes from the past 5 decades, such as Duck Terrine with Apricot Preserves and Filet of Turbot with Truffle Chive Sauce. Hungry yet? Then how about trying a new anniversary pizza – maybe Spicy Tomato and Shrimp; Potato, Bacon & Brie; or Thai?

Chocolate Journeys

In an industry-first, Princess Cruises has introduced Chocolate Journey cruises, offering a premium chocolate experience onboard the entire fleet whereby customers can taste the inspired creations of renowned master pastry chef and chocolatier, Norman Love. You will be able to attend premium chocolate and wine tastings, chocolate cooking demonstrations, choose from a chocolate drink menu or chocolate spa treatments. And, for the anniversary, Normal Love has created two special 50th anniversary desserts to be served alternately on cruises. These are a Chocolate Raspberry Mousse with Vanilla Creme Brulee and Crunchy Shortbread, and a Moist Chocolate Dome with Raspberry Creme Brulee and Bittersweet Chocolate Mousse. Time to indulge we think!

Toast to 50 Years

Say cheers to Princess’ 50 years with an inventive cocktail from renowned mixologist Spike Marchant or a popular drink from another decade –maybe a martini or a pine colada? A special half-bottle anniversary-labelled Prosecco will also be offered, as well as a specially brewed craft beer from Seawitch West Coast.

Celebratory Entertainment

The 50th anniversary celebrations will feature a golden balloon drop in the Piazza, with some balloons including free giveaways, and a special anniversary song “Here’s to Princess” will be performed. Onboard you will also be entertained with games shows, a Princess Trivia Challenge – 5th Anniversary Edition, and tribute bands on select sailings.

Decor and Commemorative Keepsakes

Both in port and onboard guests will see anniversary signage and decor, including a spectacular cake presented in the atrium. An anniversary tote bag and commemorative time line will be in each stateroom, and an anniversary logo will appear on room key cards and the daily Princess Patter. Each ship will also have a 50th anniversary flag on the bow.

The onboard boutiques will offer limited edition merchandise during the cruises, with other exclusive offers throughout the year.

The anniversary season officially kicks off with the naming ceremony of Regal Princess on 5 November 2014 in Fort Lauderdale, where the original Love Boast cast members will be present for the ceremony, before the ship sails her maiden season in the Caribbean. It will then be rolled out to the rest of the fleet in early 2015, and will culminate with a special Mexico itinerary on 3 December 2015 – exactly 50 years to the day that the line’s original ship, Princess Patricia, set sail on the very first cruise in 1965.
