P&O Cruises Launches First Cookery Program At Sea
P&O Cruises Food Hero and celebrity chef Marco Pierre White will oversee contenders in a new reality TV show filmed on board P&O Cruises' Britannia. Airing on UKTV's entertainment channel Watch, the reality program Battlechefs is the first travelling cookery program at sea.
Filmed over two Mediterranean cruises on board Britannia, which was christened in April by the Queen, two groups of five celebrities will battle it out to impress judge White. Although chosen for their foodie credentials, none of the celebrities, who include athlete Greg Rutherford, Blur’s Alex James, Boyzone’s Keith Duffy and Susannah Constantine, are chefs.
At each port of call contenders will go ashore to gain insight into local culinary traditions and heritage and to pick up new techniques before battling it out in a 'head chef' cook-off scenario for the captain and VIP guests. With the on-board Cookery Club as backdrop, and under the watchful eye of White, each contender will lead their fellow competitors into battle in the hope of impressing the captain and guests.
The victor of each series will be invited to join the celebrity chef line-up at the Cookery Club. UKTV’s commissioning editor, Victoria Summer, describes the series as an "energetic show that centres on challenge and good-hearted rivalry".
"Seeing whether our celebs can pull off the menus they’re given against the clock is going to be very entertaining," Ms Summer said.
Eric Lanlard's signature Epicurean Afternoon Tea, launched on Britannia, was also rolled out on Azura and Ventura yesterday. Lanlard is among the line's stellar line-up of Food Heroes which, alongside White also includes James Martin, Olly Smith and Atul Kochhar.
Battlechefs will air on Watch in 2016.
