New APT & Travelmarvel Ships Make Waves In Myanmar

Posted February 28th, 2016

Myanmar, formerly known as Burma, is one of the hottest cruise destinations for 2016 with plenty of new river cruise itineraries showcasing the exquisite traditional and colonial architecture that graces the banks of the Irrawaddy River. Recently celebrating the maiden voyages of two new Myanmar-based vessels from Yangon to Mandalay, APT and Travelmarvel have released a sneak peek at the RV Samatha and RV Princess Panhwar, both built in Yangon.

New to APT is the RV Samatha, the name a nod to the Buddhist practice of calming the mind to achieve peace and tranquility - both qualities you'll experience on this luxury river ship amid the gentle Burmese culture. The boutique vessel contains just 30 well-appointed suites  ranging from 27 square metres to 48.7 square metres in size, each with a panoramic or twin balcony to drink in the views.

Other special features of RV Samatha include exclusive onboard nightly dinners designed by APT Asia Ambassador Luke Nguyen. The renowned Vietnamese-Australia chef has also crafted an unique degustation menu in the ship's private dining room, an intimate experience for just eight diners. Other onboard facilties include a sundeck with swimming pool, day spa and an air-conditioned lounge and bar.

Travelmarvel's new river cruise vessel, RV Princess Panhwar, has adopted a Hindu moniker, named after the favourite queen of the deity, Vishnu. The regal-sounding river cruise ship contains 36 welcoming staterooms and suites, ranging from 26 square metres to 42.5 square metres in size, with either a French balcony or an outside verandah.

The fully escorted cruise ship features an air-conditioned lounge area on the sundeck, a main restaurant and a spa and massage area. Guests aboard RV Princess Panhwar can expect all meals, drinks and sightseeing included on their Myanmar cruise. The bar and lounge area flaunts a colonial ambience, reflecting its local surrounds, within a light airy space of clean lines and intricate details.

The RV Samatha has limited 2016 departure dates between September and December, while RV Princess Panhwar has only December departures available for 2016. Book now for 2017 departures with APT and Travelmarvel to Myanmar.

Consumed with unrequited wanderlust, I get my fix in 24/7 cities and hippie retreats. I'm still looking for the ultimate combo of secluded beach and major metropolis, and my happy place is a 5-star hotel room all to myself - sigh.
