A Girls' Guide To River Cruising With Scenic
Girls just want to have fun afloat, and the waterways of Asia and Europe are calling. So much so that Scenic has launched a girls’ guide to river cruising to cater for the growing number of women travelling together.
Scenic general manager journey design Aleisha Fittler said: “Over the past couple of years we have noticed an increase in the number of women travelling in groups – either with friends or family such as sisters and daughters.”
With more than a dozen luxury Scenic Space-Ships sailing the grand waterways of Europe and Asia, amid all-inclusive luxury, how can a girl say no? Here are four things we’ve learned from Scenic’s Unforgettable Wonders: A Girls’ Guide To River Cruising.
1. You’ll Be Pampered
A personal transfer from the airport will whisk you to your vessel, where a glass of French Champagne awaits. Your own private butler will provide a nightly turndown service – after you’ve chosen your pillow from the pillow menu, of course – so you can really enjoy your deluxe linens. A touch of a button will reveal your Scenic Sun Lounge, a private balcony.
2. There’s Lots Of Shopping
Wow your friends back home with that chic number from a French boutique and the perfect leather satchel from Budapest. Adorn yourself with hand-crafted jewellery from Portugal or your home with hand-painted ceramics from Vienna.
Take home a sweet treat of German gingerbread or Swiss chocolate. In Asia, look for delicate silks from Cambodia and expertly made perfume from Vientiane in Laos.
For iconic shopping experiences, explore the famed Galeries Lafayette in Paris, and Bordeaux’s Rue Saint Catherine; or get lost among the stalls of the Angkor Night Market, Myanmar’s Bogyoke Aung San Market, or Luang Prabang’s tranquil Handicraft Night Market. If you time your cruise for the festive season, you can sip gluhwein in Europe’s merry Christmas markets.

3. Food Is A Journey In Itself
On board, have your butler bring your morning latte, with a hot, buttery croissant on the side. Savour buffet or a la carte fare in the on-board restaurants, and finish with a nightcap with your bestie after a day of exploring.
On land, step into a world of flavours – you can even shop for ingredients at local markets with your on-board chef. Watch the passing parade from a French bistro along the Seine, and enjoy a private dinner and concert in a chateau in Medoc. Take tapas in Salamanca, and sample sparkling wines in Portugal. Eat feel-good food at a restaurant run by a local NGO in Cambodia or get hands-on with a cooking class in Hanoi’s lively Old Quarter.
4. Rivers Are Romantic
You don’t need to be loved up to find romance – it’s all around you in the fabled waterways of Europe and the mystic rivers of Asia. The Seine flows through the very city of romance, Paris; the Danube will waltz you off your feet; the Dordogne and Garonne will make you giddy (or that might be from the glass of Bordeaux); and the Rhine will have your heart aflutter with its fairytale castles. Be charmed by the sights along the Mekong, and fall in love with temples and pagodas along the Irrawaddy.
So gather up your girlfriends and cruise into some holiday fun afloat.
