Disney Fantasy New York debut
Last night New York harbour hosted the official naming ceremony for the brand new Disney Fantasy, which is pictured below receiving a fireboat water salute as it sailed past the Statue of Liberty on Wednesday.
Grammy Award winning singer Mariah Carey chirstened the second new Disney cruise ship to debut in a year, in a star-studded ceremony at the Manhattan Cruise Terminal. Standing alongside Disney CEO Bob Iger, Disney Parks and Resorts Chairman Tom Staggs and Mickey Mouse in the 2,500-passenger vessel's soaring atrium, Carey led an audience of hundreds of invited guests in a countdown that triggered a six-foot-tall faux champagne bottle to erupt in confetti.
"May God bless this ship and all who sail on it," Carey shouted, as her husband, entertainer Nick
Cannon, and Minnie Mouse broke a real bottle of champagne against the side of the ship.
Completed last month, the Disney Fantasy has been under construction for more than a year at Germany's Meyer Werft shipyard. Sister ship to the Disney Dream, Fantasy carries 2500 passengers at dual occupancy and has a fantastic AquaDuck "water coaster" which wraps around the pool deck.
As you'd expect, Disney Fantasy also boasts a great range of entertainment for kids and adults alike, and there's a new night-time precinct for grown-ups called Europa, and an "elaborate new dinner show" called Animation Magic, which is hosted by none other than Mickey Mouse himself.
She will remain in New York until today before heading to Port Canaveral in Florida, where Disney Fantasy will be based year-round, alternating seven-night sailings to the Eastern and Western Caribbean.
