Cruise Lines Bring Popular TV to the Sea
What would you do if your favourite TV show wasn’t just confined to your screen, your pyjamas and a big tub of ice cream at night? What if you could experience the excitement and the thrills of your coveted series on a star-studded cruise adventure? It’s time to pack your swimmers, sunscreen and an autograph book, because more and more cruise lines are hosting television-themed cruises. Read on to find out which ships are causing ripples at sea.
Dancing with the Stars: At Sea
If you love Dancing with the Stars, you’d better make plans to head to Florida next January. Holland America Line’s Dancing with the Stars: At Sea is making its final departure to award the coveted Mirrorball Trophy to the highest scoring contestants from its previous themed cruises. ms Nieuw Amsterdam sets sail with big-name stars, like TV favourites Carson Kressley and Florence Henderson, as well as Dancing with the Stars performers and Mirrorball Trophy winners Kim Johnson and Toni Davaloni. Across two seven-day voyages, passengers can watch the stars perform routines from the show, as well as new routines choreographed for the cruise. Guests can also learn from the ship’s professional dancers during fun workshops. During the fashion show, fans will also have the chance get up-close to the TV show’s costumes, and at other events they can meet the stars and take photos.
The Voice of the Ocean
October sees the debut of Princess Cruises’ The Voice of the Ocean. Inspired by the hit TV series The Voice, Regal Princess will give passengers the chance to show off their vocal prowess through auditions, live performances and a competition to win the honouring trophy. The ‘show’ unfolds during the entire course of the journey, kicking off with cruisers auditioning during two karaoke sessions. Those who receive the most support from other guests and cruise staff go on to be mentored by top vocal coaches and high profile members. During the finale, which will take place on the last night of the cruise, finalists perform in the limelight with Regal Princess’ band and back-up singers. To top it off, the coaches sit in iconic ‘I Want You’ chairs and spin around to decide who they want on their team.
To cater for growing demand, Princess Cruises has added eight additional ships to host The Voice of the Ocean between January and May in 2016. Princess Cruises Vice President of Entertainment Adrian Fischer said the event has grown to be so popular because it allows guests to feel like they’re apart of the show. Sister ships Royal Princess and Caribbean Princess will also set sail in November.
Walker Stalker Cruise
Due to The Walking Dead’s worldwide success, fans have the chance to escape to the seas on a Walker Stalker Cruise, hosted by Norwegian Cruise Line’s Norwegian Pearl. Set to sail in January next year, fans and the show’s stars alike will enjoy the three-day extravaganza in Miami, Nassau and the Bahamas. Cruisers will be immersed in the show’s apocalyptic world as they participate in meet and greets, question and answer sessions, autograph signings, late-night zombie-themed parties, games and costume competitions. Fans will even have the chance to pick the brains (not literally) of the show’s makeup artists and geniuses to understand how the gruesome episodes come to life. The Walker Stalker Cruise has been so well-received that there is now a waiting list to get on board.
