Just when you thought a European river cruise couldn’t get any better, Avalon Waterways announces new ships, new itineraries and new destinations to add to its
2016 Avalon Waterways River Cruising Season! From next year, Avalon Waterways will be offering more destinations than ever before, with a choice of 48 different itineraries spread across the European waterways including the Rhine, Danube, Main, Moselle, Seine, Rhône and Meuse rivers. Avalon has also announced a further two new Suite Ships to be launched in 2016, giving it a total of 12 Suite Ships in an overall European fleet of 16 modern vessels.

Sailing into Belgium

From April 2016, Avalon will cruise into Belgium on the , making it the first cruise line to sail on this picturesque river. Travelling as far as Namur, in the French-speaking region of Wallonia, the cruise ship will visit towns and waterways that are out of reach to larger vessels. The new Belgian itineraries will include the “Essential Holland and Belgium”, an eight-day voyage starting in Amsterdam, visiting Rotterdam and the windmills of Kinderdijk before travelling to the grandest cities in Belgium, including Ghent, Antwerp and Brussels. Avalon Waterways have also added the 9-day “Enchanting Belgium” from Amsterdam, visiting Belgium highlights including Ghent and the battlefields of Ypres with four departures in April.

Two New Suite Ships

Avalon will continue to expand its fleet in 2016 with the introduction of two new ships in Europe: The Avalon Passion and the Avalon Imagery II, due for delivery in spring 2016. Both of the new vessels will have the innovative "Suite Ship" design that was introduced in 2011, completely revolutionising river cruising, giving passengers more space, better views and a contemporary style.
These cabins, known as Panorama Suites, are the most unique accommodations in river cruising, offering 30% more cabin space than the industry average at 200 square feet. All cabins are uniquely designed with floor-to-ceiling, wall-to-wall panoramic windows that slide open wide to create an Open Air balcony. Their unique designs offer the benefits of a balcony cabin, without taking up the additional space needed for a balcony. Their clever suite design means beds are positioned to face the windows (rather than the wall), and the incredible sights river cruising is famous for while their smaller capacity allows a more intimate and uncrowded style of travel. You can read more about these one-of-a-kind Panorama Suites in our previous blog post, The Suite Life.
