Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada

imports and exports to and from the Orient and Australia pass through. From the harbour entrance see the “Lion's Gate,” derived from the twin mountain peaks closely resembling crouching lions. Enjoy the cosmopolitan feel of the city from Nathan Street, lined with shops, to historic Gastown. You may also enjoy a scenic drive past Stanley Park to the Vancouver Aquariumm and then to Queen Elizabeth Park, the highest point of land in Vancouver.

Ketchikan, Alaska

The name Ketchikan comes from the native language word for “where the eagles' wings are”. Much of the town's colourful past is still in evidence, like the world's largest collection of totem poles, staring out to sea. Ketchikan is also known as the salmon capital of the world.

Icy Strait Point

Icy Strait Point is located near the city of Hoonah, the largest native Tlingit Indian settlement in Alaska, and very near Glacier Bay National Park. Home to a historic cannery, the port's connection to the sea is strong. Locals share the sea with humpback whales, orcas, Dall porpoises, seals, sea otters, halibut and all five species of Pacific salmon. It is not uncommon to spot a humpback or an orca while walking along the shore.

Juneau, Alaska

Alaska's capital was born in the gold rush of 1880. Today though, it is the scenery that is the town's fortune, with magnificent glaciers, snow-capped mountains and lush, dense forests that begin literally where the houses stop. The varied landscapes mean wildlife around Juneau is abundant – you may spot humpback and killer whales, sea lions, porpoises, eagles and bears.

Seward, Alaska

Seward, for instance: sport fishing, glacier or wildlife cruises, hiking, kayaking, sailing, ‘flightseeing', dog-sled riding, cross-country skiing and snowmobiling. Alternatively, check out the historic downtown district with its wood-framed houses and quaint shops.
