Weird & Wonderful Themed Cruises For 2016
When it comes to cruising, sometimes it's all about the theme. A sailing for heavy metal rockers and another for fans of The Walking Dead: these are just two of the bizarre themed cruises taking place this year. Check out the full list below, so you know which ones to pencil in for your next cruise holiday in coming years.
Zombies At Sea
One of the most highly anticipated themed cruises of all time sets sail from Miami on January 15. It revolves around the hit US TV series The Walking Dead, a post-apocalyptic, gore-filled zombie romp that is in the middle of its sixth season.
On board will be at least nine of the show's stars, including Norman Reedus, who plays lovable rogue Daryl, and Danai Gurira, better known as the sword-wielding Michonne, while makeup artists will be on hand to turn passengers into bloodthirsty monsters. Alas, the cruise is sold out, but given its popularity, we reckon another one could be in the pipeline.
Connect With Spirits
Psychics Unleashed 4 – a themed option on Carnival Legend – features not one, two, or even three, but four of the best psychics and mediums from Down Under, and sails on October 19 from Sydney.
If that doesn't take your fancy, there's a Ghost Hunter's Cruise taking place on Norwegian Pearl from September 18-25, departing from Seattle and visiting Alaska.
Talk About Cats
The Meow Meow Cruise has nothing to do with the illegal drug mephedrone. It is in fact a gathering on water for cat lovers around the world (or at least those who can conveniently get to the departure port of Miami). Alas, your feline will have to make do with a postcard – cats aren't actually allowed on board. Departs April 21 on Carnival Paradise.

Reality TV: P&O Launches First Cookery Program At Sea
P&O's Strictly Come Dancing-themed cruises have proven hugely popular since they were launched in 2012. There are three Strictly sailings on the cards, departing Southampton on April 22, May 16 and June 5, and all exploring the Canary Islands. Expect performances from the pros, sequins galore and the chance to dance in an onboard competition.
There will be a distinct shortage of foxtrots and cha-cha-chas on the five-day Monsters of Rock Cruise, featuring bands with names like Helloween, The Killer Dwarfs and Lynch Mob. It all takes place in the Bahamas on Norwegian Pearl from February 22.
In the same vein – and with a better name – is 70,000 Tons of Metal. Featuring 60 heavy metal bands over four mosh-filled days, it departs from Miami on February 4.
Several cruise lines host poker tournaments at sea, including Norwegian Cruise Line. Its 2016 Poker Challenge takes place on board Norwegian Epic from December 10-17, departing from Port Canaveral, Florida, with a total of four tournaments taking place.
