Unique Elements of a Holland America Line Cruise
Every cruise line ha something unique to offer their guests, and something to set them apart from the others. Carnival has their FunShips, Royal Caribbean offers the WOW factor, and Norwegian Cruise Line has freestyle cruising. So, what can you find on a Holland America Line cruise that is unique or different?
Here are the top unique elements you can find on Holland America cruises.
Culinary Council and Arts Centre
A number of the Holland America Line ships have a Culinary Arts Centre that offers classes, presentations and food instructional classes. The program combines a love of food and wine in a unique and engaging style, with classes and presentations offered in a theatre-style venue and a state-of-the-art demonstration kitchen. You can engage in hands-on cooking classes, watch guest chef appearances, take part in wine tasting and mixology, and attend regionally inspired workshops. There is also a program tailored for kids and teens.
The enrichment program is backed by the Culinary Council, an innovative team of top-name chefs from around the world, who use the program to inspire new and more creative learning experiences. The Council, including Master Chef Rudi Sodamin, Jonnie Boer, Mark Best and Elizabeth Falkner, also guides and enhances all aspects of the shipboard culinary experience, and develop signature recipes to be featured in all dining venues on all ships.
Dancing with the Stars: At Sea
On every Holland America cruise, you can participate in complimentary dance classes, based on dance routines from the hit show Dancing With The Stars. You can then show off your moves and compete in the Dancing with the Stars: At Sea competition hosted on the ship. Auditions are held at the beginning of the cruise, and selected finalists get to take to the main stage with the ship's dance professionals to find the one Cruise Champion at the end of the cruise!
Single Partners Program
Holland America Line is popular among solo travellers, and part of the reason is the Single Partners Program hosted on every cruise. At the beginning of the cruise, the ship hosts a gathering for solo cruisers, so you can meet like-minded people and make new friends. You can also request to be seated with other solo's at dinner. The cruise line goes above and beyond to make it easier and more comfortable for solo cruisers, and on select sailings they even offer dance partners for single ladies.
Digital Workshop Powered by Windows
This unique enrichment program has been very popular on Holland America Line cruises. Available on all ships, you can learn digital photography, video editing and web skills while you cruise. Free, informative sessions are led by a Microsoft-trained techspert on a variety of topics, such as how to edit and enhance photos, how to post photos to the web or email them, or how to create blog entries, videos and scrapbooks. This program has been so popular that the cruise line recently gave it an upgrade and added new topics to the list.
Holland America Line ships are known for their extensive art collections, and during your cruise you can take a self-guided walking tour to learn more about the art featured on your ship. These tours highlight the art onboard, and are narrated by well-known radio hosts Paul Lasley and Elizabeth Harryman. The tour, 30 to 40 minutes in duration, including walking directions, interviews with the artists, background music and thumbnails of some of the artworks. You can download it to your iPod or MP3 Player before your cruise, or you can get it onboard.
Holland America Line offers more than 500 sailings a year to all 7 continents, so the world really is your oyster.
