Take a Cruise, Help a Cause
In 2012, Princess Cruises launched their "Cruising for a Cause" initiative, whereby they dedicate an entire sailing to support select charitable cause, providing guests with a way to make a difference, even as they holiday.
The first fundraising cruise announced is in support of two U.S Veterans charities. A portion of every cruise fare will be donated on behalf of each guest to the nominated charities, and Princess Cruises is matching every dollar donated.
Princess Cruises' have now announced their second "Cruising for a Cause" Caribbean cruise, in support of the America Heart Association. With "heart-healthy" as the theme for the cruise, Ruby Princess will embark on a 5 night cruise over Valentine's Day next year, sailing roundtrip from Fort Lauderdale.
This cruise will feature all sorts of onboard programs to increase awareness about heart health, via guest speakers, enrichment programs and educational activities. Princess Cruises' dining room menus already feature hearty-healthy dishes that are prepared with low-sodium, low-fat and low-cholesterol, and guests will be able to spot these either with a "V" for vegetarian or by a small lotus flower that indicated a heart-healthy selection.
And, if you are a fan of The Love Boat television show, you will be happy to know that Gavin McLeod, a.k.a. Captain Stubing, will be the official host for this cruise. Planned activities include cooking demonstrations for heart-healthy cuisine, a fundraising Walk on Deck, and a Ruby Red Gala.
From this cruise, The American Heart Association will benefit from a tax-deductible portion of everyone's cruise fare, which will be matched by Princess Cruises.
