Swipe Right For Your Princess Ship Soulmate

Posted March 22nd, 2016

You've heard of The Love Boat, now you can find your ship soulmate before you even board your cruise. In a first for the cruise market, Princess Cruises utilises the popular functionality of dating apps to match cruisers to their perfect cruise, destination and itineraries. The newly launched Places to Sea mobile tool is specifically designed for smartphones using the 'swipe-to-like' experience. You can also go to the Places to Sea website and use your mouse to experience the app online.

Just like online dating apps, the variety of cruises and destination options can be overwhelming. Available on iOS and Android, Places to Sea allows users to swipe images (right to like and left to reject) based on their personal preferences. The travel-related images include stunning scenery, exciting activities, culinary delights and bucket-list destinations.

Once you've swiped right on your favourite images or rejected those depicting activities you're 'just not that into', Princess Cruises will play matchmaker and pair you with one of five different travel personalities based on your selections. Once you know whether you are an adventurer, culturist, naturalist or foodie, you'll be matched to a cruise destination and different cruise itineraries.

Based on my swipes, I was assigned an adventurer profile and my top destination is New Zealand. Some of my suggested activities include Waitomo Glowworm Grotto, swimming with Hector's dolphins and a Mohaka River float trip.

And once you've found your ship soulmate, your cruising partner and group can also get in on the matchmaking action!

Consumed with unrequited wanderlust, I get my fix in 24/7 cities and hippie retreats. I'm still looking for the ultimate combo of secluded beach and major metropolis, and my happy place is a 5-star hotel room all to myself - sigh.
