Idyllic River Cruising With Avalon

Posted October 2nd, 2015

I couldn't have asked for anything more from my Avalon Tapestry River Cruise from Paris - what an amazing trip!

My cruise journey started at the Hotel Pullman Montparnesse where Avalon has a dining room dedicated for clients until the coach arrives to take us to the ship. Here you can get refreshments while you wait.

Once on board, it only took about two minutes to check in and I was excited to find my room had a gorgeous view of the top deck of the Eiffel Tower.

The restaurant was amazing. There was a new menu each night with three or four of the same dishes, plus a few new additions and, of course, wines to match. All meals were delicious and the decor was modern and fresh. I also appreciated the big windows, which allowed me to see the sights on the move while dining.

As expected, the rooms are small. However, each one had a flat-screen TV, in-room movies, a marble bathroom, L'Occitaine products and super soft duvet. Even the fire place on the TV was set every night!

I don't think I have ever had better service on any cruise before. Nothing was too much trouble. The crew tried really hard to personalise the experience for us with a staff night of fun and games, and they also introduced all the staff including the dishwashers, so we got to see and know everyone on board.

For our port days, I was really impressed to find there were far more inclusions than expected.  Every day was full and busy, but the excursions were set up at a fun and enjoyable pace for everyone.

The guides were exceptionally informative, the coaches were clean and everyone had their own headset, which made listening more relaxing. We experienced all the must-sees and possibly more.

Note: As an added bonus, from 2016 Avalon will include tipping in its pricing, which will be fantastic for cruisers because it is a little annoying to have to tip the guide/driver each time.
