Posted September 25th, 2015

A land of immense beauty, the Arctic Circle serves up endless polar landscapes largely untouched by humankind yet home to a unique sect of animals perfectly suited to life in this vast terrain.

Touching the northernmost reaches of Russia, Greenland, Canada and Scandinavia, there are few once-in-a-lifetime journeys that can compare. And now, Princess Cruises can take you there.

In a bid to continue to offer passengers unique experiences in every corner of the globe, Princess has announced plans to head to the Land of the Midnight Sun in 2017. Travelling aboard the Sea Princess, this will be the first ship to sail from Australia to the Arctic Circle as part of a 104-night global circumnavigation.

This incredible journey will visit 39 ports in 26 different countries. This includes ports of call in the Middle East, Europe and United Kingdom before setting course to the north to make memorable calls to the Lofoten Islands (Gravdal), Tromso, Honningsvag and Akureyri in the Arctic Circle. Then it's on to North America and the Pacific Islands en route to her return to Australia.

Princess Cruises Vice President Australia & New Zealand Stuart Allison said of the new polar additions: "2017 will mark 10 years since our first world cruise from Australia and we’re thrilled to be able to take our guests to new destinations in the Arctic Circle on this itinerary. These voyages provide a wonderful way to travel the globe in comfort while experiencing different lands and cultures."

Roundtrip departures are available from Sydney, Fremantle and Auckland.

This exciting news joins a full list of additions to the 2017 winter cruising itineraries. This includes a second world cruise option, encompassing 75 nights aboard the Grand-class Golden Princess ship.

Set sail to China and Japan before heading to the waters of North America where you'll arrive in Vancouver just in time to celebrate Canada Day and San Francisco to watch the Independence Day Fireworks over the Golden Gate Bridge.

Roundtrip departures are available from Sydney and Brisbane.

Of course, shorter itineraries are readily available, with plenty of highlights in the 2017 schedule. This includes a 35-night voyage to Hawaii and Tahiti aboard the Golden Princess; a 10-night voyage through the South Pacific aboard the Sun Princess and a 12-night Treasures of Asia voyage aboard the Dawn Princess.
