Major Refurbishments for Cunard Flagship Queen Mary 2
Written by: Jessica Holmes
Cunard has announced its iconic flagship Queen Mary 2 will undergo significant refurbishments next year. Between May 27 and June 21, 2016, the extensive improvements will be performed over a 25-day dry dock in Hamburg, Germany.
The first considerable improvement will be 15 additional single staterooms to better cater for the single traveller. Cunard’s research noted that more and more guests are seeking single accommodation, with an increase in solo guests travelling as part of multi-generational groups.
Thirty additional Britannica Club balcony staterooms will also be created in response to the growing trend for balcony staterooms. Guests travelling in these rooms will also enjoy more flexibility with the option of dining in the dedicated Britannia Club restaurant at the time of their choosing. The popular restaurant will also be expanded.
Ten new kennels will be added to cater to the ship’s furry passengers. Queen Mary 2 is the only cruise liner in the world to offer dedicated kennels and can currently cater for 12 dogs and cats on its transatlantic crossings. The kennels often sell out so the new additions will be a welcomed improvement. There will also be a reserved area on the deck for dog walking that will include a lamp post and fire hydrant to help every four-legged passenger feel at home.
The prestigious ocean liner has long been an icon of luxury ocean travel and the impending innovative enhancements are set to transform the ship on a grand scale. Further improvements to Queen Mary 2 will be revealed in the coming months.
Accommodation on Queen Mary 2 is now on sale for sailings from late June 2016. Australians can experience the newly refurbished Queen Mary 2 on a number of seven night east or west bound transatlantic crossings in 2016 and 2017.
