A cruise to tropical Hawaii can conjure up images of sun, surf and sand, but the truth is that there is a lot more to discover and experience on this archipelago. From splashing waterfalls and tropical gardens to active volcanoes and wildlife, you’ll be spoilt for choice when it comes to attractions and activities. To get a glimpse of what’s in store, check out these full-day and half-day shore excursions that have been designed exclusively for Cruiseabout customers docking at Maui, Kauai, Kona and Hilo.

1. Heavenly Hana - Maui

This full-day tour covers over 100 kilometres of East Maui and some of the island’s most scenic sights. Winding along the road and across 59 bridges towards the village of Hana will bring you to stunning, lush landscapes ranging from the cascading Wailua and Puohokamoa Falls to magnificent views of the ocean and famous beaches. A final stop off at the Tedeschi Winery is the perfect way to end the day.

2. Best of Maui - Maui

Discover the best of the island both above the water and below on this 4 hour tour. You’ll sample sweet, refreshing delights like mangoes, pineapples, papayas and sugarcane at the Maui Tropical Plantation, then explore the natural beauty of Ioa Valley before finishing up at the Maui Ocean Centre. Walk through the aquarium and come close to playful sea creatures – from dolphins, seals, turtles, manta rays as well as exotic fish and even sharks.

3. Iao Valley and Maui Tropical Plantation - Maui

Visit two of Maui’s most popular spots on this four-hour tour. The trip will take you through the lush landscape of Iao Valley and towards the Iao Needle – a lava relic now covered in green vegetation and reaching 1, 200 feet from the ground. You’ll then finish up at the Maui Tropical Plantation with walks through fruit fields, flower orchards and coffee plantations to sample delicious papayas, mangoes, pineapples and more.

4. Island’s Best Luau - Kauai

Sometimes the best way to experience a different culture is through its food and this excursion is designed to do just that. Discover Polynesian culture with a unique dinner combining a range of local and traditional Hawaiian dishes with customary dancing and entertainment.

5. Hawaii Movie Tour - Kauai

Revisit scenes from some of your favourite Hollywood blockbusters; from Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides and Avatar, to Jurassic Park and 1934’s White Heat, Kaui’s landscapes and buildings have been featured in a number of films and this fascinating six-hour tour visits them all. You’ll also get the chance to lunch at the famous Tahiti Nui, where George Clooney’s award-winning movies, The Descendants was partially filmed.

6. Volcano National Park Rainbow Falls – Hilo

Find yourself amongst Hawaii’s volcanic landscapes on this full-day tour to Kilauea’s summit. Driving 17 kilometres across the crater, you’ll then take a short walk through a lush rainforest and have the opportunity to admire the stark contrast of the island’s landscapes. Follow this up with a walk through the 500-year-old Thurston Lava Tube before heading over to the Thomas A. Jaggar Museum to find out more about Hawaii’s geological make-up.
