Everything You Need to Know for the 2015/2016 Cruising Season
Do you want to travel across blue waters during the 2015/2016 cruising season? Perhaps you’re finally ready to visit that port destination you’ve been dreaming about all year? The cruising game has reached king tide since last season, with plenty of new ships, updates and special events launching soon. Here are a few things you should know before you sail away.
P&O Cruises’ Expansion
P&O Cruises’ fleet is growing, with Pacific Aria and Pacific Eden soon to be sailing the seas from November this year. This highly anticipated event, dubbed the Five Ship Spectacular, will be celebrated in Sydney Harbour on the 25th of November. The party will feature performances across the ships from top musical talent, like Jessica Mauboy, The Veronicas, Justice Crew, Stan Walker and Samantha Jade.
Once the cruise line’s newest ships have been officially named near Sydney’s Fort Denison, the entire fleet will dock in surrounding harbour locations before a spectacular fireworks show in the evening. P&O Cruises Senior Vice President Sture Myrmell said ‘… this will be an iconic moment in Sydney Harbour’s history’.
Those looking to holiday on Pacific Aria and Eden should book fast. The ships’ revamped adults-only Oasis area is one of many highly anticipated features. Others include luxury penthouses, 16 dining experiences and Premium Cinemas featuring climate controlled, retractable roofs. Cruising on the seas has never been so stylish!

Royal Caribbean International’s Additions
For the first time ever, Royal Caribbean International will have 4 ships sailing around Australia in the 2015/2016 cruise season, with Legend of the Seas to be based in Brisbane and Explorer of the Seas, Voyager of the Seas and Radiance of the Seas in Sydney.
There will also be celebrations galore on November 28, when the Explorer of the Seas and the revitalised Voyager of the Seas meet in Sydney Harbour. This is an especially exciting moment, as during this event, Explorer will be named the largest Australian-based ship for the 2015/2016 cruising season. Many eyes, however, will be on Voyager. Royal Caribbean International says they are spending ‘millions of dollars’ on this ship to ensure cruisers will experience the ultimate holiday. This won’t be too difficult to achieve, as passengers can expect to relax in an updated adults-only solarium, and enjoy fantastic on-board activities like ice-skating, surfing and rock climbing, as well as dine in fantastic restaurants.
December 2016 sees another addition to the cruise line, with the unveiling of its Quantum-class Ovation of the Seas. Known as Australia’s first smart ship, cruisers can expect to enjoy a fantastic variety of features and experiences. RipCord by iFly is one such thrilling attraction; it will be the first skydiving simulator at sea! A robotically tendered Bionic Bar, SeaPlex and an awe-inspiring North Star will each thrust passengers into an incredible cruising experience. Those excited for delicious cuisine won’t be disappointed with the ship’s array of celebrity-inspired kitchens, including Jamie Oliver’s Jamie’s Italian.
Cruising Down Under
Those wanting to explore Australia this season will have plenty of cruising options. As passengers explore the country’s coastline, they can visit New Zealand and see UNESCO World Heritage Sites, including the Great Barrier Reef and Ayers Rock. P&O Cruises’ Pacific Aria is one such ship that will stop by the Great Barrier Reef, and the Sea Princess in particular will be sailing from Brisbane to Fremantle. Those wanting to stop by Port Lincoln, Adelaide, Ayers Rock or Kangaroo Island can enjoy a cruise and fantastic shore excursions on Holland America’s Ms Volendam.
