Cunard's Best Special Event Europe Cruises For 2017

Posted April 17th, 2016

Here in Australia we're often too far away from the world's biggest events to truly enjoy the festivities. Cunard is helping travellers from around the world immerse themselves in the monumental occasions taking part in Europe in 2017 with a series of new special event cruise offerings.

The best of the bunch ranges from seven-night cross-ocean cruises to 21-night meanderings around the Mediterranean. These contribute to the cruise line's 2017 season total of more than 200 sailings on Queen Mary 2, Queen Victoria and Queen Elizabeth, which will cover 90-plus destinations in over 30 countries.

Queen Mary 2

The following four event cruises are the clear favourites and are shaping up to be memorable affairs:

  1. Le Harve 500th Anniversary - Cunard's Queen Mary 2 will sail for eight nights from Southampton, stopping off at the historic commune of Le Harve in France in time to partake in its 500th-year anniversary. Fireworks, historical costumes and live music are all on the agenda.
  2. Arena di Verona - Three Mediterranean Queen Victoria cruises will stop overnight in Venice for the legendary Areda di Verona Opera Festival. Guests will have inclusive travel to Verona for the event.
  3. Christmas markets - Two short journeys departing from Southampton will take in the magic of Europe's Christmas markets. Guests on Queen Elizabeth and Queen Victoria will be able to explore the markets in Bruges, Cherbourg and Amsterdam, with the latter ship celebrating her 10th anniversary at the same time.
  4. Kiel Week - Queen Elizabeth will depart on a 14-night round trip from Southampton on 10 July, 2017, with the focus a stop at Kiel in Germany for the world's biggest sailing event: Kiel Week.

Other additions to Cunard's 2017 cruising calendar include 22 transatlantic sailings between Southampton and New York on Queen Mary 2.

Four new ports (Souda Bay in Greece, Sibenik in Croatia, Praia da Vitoria in Portugal and Brindisi in Italy) will also be opened to travellers on Queen Victoria's Mediterranean sailings – an Aussie favourite!

I love the kind of travelling that is one part strategic planning and two parts spontaneous adventure. Whether I'm exploring my local city or a small town in the middle of nowhere, I'm always hoping to find something no one else has discovered.
