Cruise Review - APT's Caledonian Sky

Posted May 31st, 2013

Cruiseabout's Marketing Manager, Monique Van Gelder, had the pleasure of an onboard inspection of APT's Caledonian Sky, and here is what she had to say about the cruise lines' venture into expeditionary cruising...

The Caledonian Sky, APT’s newest adventure into luxury expeditionary cruising, had her maiden voyage to Australia in March, and I was lucky enough to step onboard for a ship inspection and was delighted with what I discovered.

APT's Caledonian Sky

This luxury expeditionary ship felt a little like I was on one of James Packer’s luxury ships. Weighing in at 4,200 tonnes & accommodating 110 guests, it provides a unique luxury offering in the expeditionary market.

We were welcomed by APT’s product manager for expeditionary cruising, who proved that this ship is made for getting into those off the beaten track places, sighting many moments on past cruises where this ship has had an unplanned experience or stopped in ports that were not on the tourist path, giving passengers onboard the trip of a lifetime & memories that will last forever. One of these stories included a passenger request to go fishing, so they dropped lines off the back of the boat & had quite a catch of fresh fish, which the Chef added to the menu for dinner that night.

As expected, the décor was elegant in the dining and public areas & warm & welcoming on the outside decks.  I did inspect the rooms & can tell you that the images in the brochure for the lowest category rooms match what they are in reality, as I was blown away by them! All the rooms were larger than a standard house bedroom & the owners suite included a walk-in robe, with some rooms even including a bath.

The crew onboard were all so welcoming and the bridge, which can be visited by passengers,  gave a sense that customers aboard this ship will be treated like family.

APT’s reputation is one of quality, luxury & all inclusive-ness & this ship is one which will whole-heartedly live up to this reputation.  So if you are looking for your next adventure & want a unique experience this is the cruise for you.
