Celebrity Reflection Float Out

Posted August 15th, 2012

Just after dawn on Sunday morning, with the help of tugboats, Celebrity Reflection, the 5th ship in the Solstice-class series, slowly backed out of the Meyer Werft shipyard in Papenburg, Germany. It was a slow process, as the enormous ship made its way to the pier at Yard Harbour.

Now the Celebrity Reflection is berthed at the pier, the signal mast and 2 funnels will be put into place and a series of tests and trials will begin. Because she is taller than her 4 sister ships, the mast and funnels need to be attached when the ship is docked outside.

The remaining interior finishes will also be carried out over the next few weeks while Celebrity Reflection is berthed at the yard's pier. The new ship will be the backdrop for the Papenburg Festival 2012, which will take place at the grounds next to Meyer Werft shipyard on 8 September.

Delivery of the Reflection to Celebrity Cruises is on schedule, with the ship due to start her sea trials mid-September. However, the detailed date and time for the official conveyance ceremony has yet to be confirmed.

The 126,000 ton Celebrity Reflection is the only ship in the Solstice-class series to have 16 decks rather than the usual 15. This new design gives Celebrity Reflection an additional 72 cabins and can accommodate over 3,030 guests.

Also, unique to the cruise industry, Celebrity Reflection will feature an all-glass shower which will extend out over the ship. This unique feature will be found only in the Reflection Suite, Celebrity's first 2-bedroom suite, located in the corner on the ship's 14th deck. The glass shower will be equipped with electrochromatic technology which, at the touch of a button, transforms the glass from transparent to translucent.

Celebrity Reflection's inaugural sailing is on 5 December 2012, cruising the Caribbean for 3 nights. For more information on Celebrity Reflection and her itineraries, contact one of our Cruise Specialists on 1300 954 661 today!
