Carnival Spirit gets "Aussified"
Cruiseabout has received an update from Carnival Cruise Line on the Carnival Spirit on how things are developing with it's "Aussification" for when it hits our shores later this year. This is what they had to say...
"We just returned last week from Australia’s first Carnival cruise ship where we shot videos and photos, inaugurated the slide and generally checked out all the fabulous stuff that was put onboard Carnival Spirit in preparation for her arrival into Sydney Harbour on 17 October. I thought you’d like to see how things are coming along…
The ride is amazing. It’s terrifying when you step into the capsule and you’re at the height of the Sydney Harbour bridge looking out over the ocean and the ship. Everyone’s heart starts to pound and their breath comes faster as the glass door closes and the countdown begins: 3…2…1 then with a clap of thunder the world falls away and you rocket down in a freefall. Just in time, the slide twists out over the side of the ship and slingshots you out over the sea and back again to splash down at the end. It’s exhilarating, terrifying and downright SPECTACULAR. There’s nothing like it on a ship anywhere in the world…and it’s all ours as of October.
Last week we had a fun little inauguration ceremony and invited only the Aussies on the ship to give Green Thunder a go…
The SplashZone with the PowerDrencher tipping bucket:
Kids are going to go nuts when they see this area. There are ropes to pull that dump water on you, there are tipping cones that splash water unexpectedly every few minutes. The purple racing slides are always a favorite and the pools and falls area is a fun interactive waterplay area. Then, there’s the massive PowerDrencher tipping bucket that inundates the entire area every minute or so. The screams and squeals of glee from the kids every time it tipped over were just hysterical.
Serenity is just beautiful. 270 degrees of the great big blue with a tastefully tiled child free pool, a heated spa and more lounges than you can imagine. We saw lots of adults grabbing their breakfast or lunch at the La Playa Grill and bringing them out to sit at the café tables and the couches. And, just to be sure, we tested out the mojito making skills of the Serenity bartenders, and we were not disappointed. This is undoubtedly the primo destination for afternoon lounging and sunset watching.
For those guests looking for a quieter, but no less beautiful ride, all four twists of the Twister waterslide look brand new with her fresh coat of yellow paint.
The new equipment in the two deck fitness centre looks great (and yes, I did try it out!). There are plenty of brand spanking new treadmills, weight machines, elliptical trainers and free weights for our guests to choose from.
We now have a full complement of 84 interconnecting staterooms perfect for a family getaway."
