Quark Expeditions

Quark Expeditions

Quark Expeditions was born out of a mutual appreciation for the incredible Arctic landscape between two adventurers in 1991. Since then, the company has pioneered many firsts in polar expeditions and is proud to offer voyages to Antarctica, the Arctic Region and Galapagos Islands.

With Quark Expeditions, you’ll discover some of the earth’s last areas of true wilderness. The Quark fleet features small expedition ships that are nimble, yet comfortable, so that they can take passengers to even the most remote of places. Called ‘Polar Adventure Ships’, there are 8 vessels in the fleet and each is equipped with inflatable landing craft (Zodiacs) for easy shore transfers. Each ship carries fewer than 200 people and is equipped with ice-strengthened hulls to ensure that it can safely navigate the Arctic and Antarctic waters. Although these are small expedition ships, you can expect to feel right at home with comfortable facilities and a warm atmosphere on board.

Quark Expeditions also has a dedication to environmentally responsible tourism and practises eco-friendly initiatives to help preserve the natural beauty of the Polar Regions.

If you’re itching to explore the natural beauty of the Polar Regions and beautiful Galapagos Islands, then call one of our friendly cruise experts on 1300 769 228 or email us via the online form to start the booking process today!

Kids

Children between the ages of 8 and 16 years are welcomed on board under the condition that they meet Quark’s height and weight requirements (weighing at least 29kg and measuring 1.2m) and are accompanied by an adult at all times. Children under 8 years old are not allowed to journey on a Quark vessel. It must also be noted that children (18 and under) cannot participate in adventure options, which may limit the parents’ experience. Make sure to check with a cruise consultant about the full guidelines before booking a family trip with Quark Expeditions.

Dining

With the different sizes of Quark’s ships (one only holds a dozen passengers!) the range of dining options will vary between the ships. What you can expect, however, is a delicious meal three times a day. The food on board is prepared by an internationally-trained chef and his professional team. They focus on bringing freshness, variety, and creativity into every dish and change the menu every day so that passengers will never be bored. Early risers will get to enjoy fresh pastries still warm from the oven at 6am before a buffet-style breakfast. Lunch may also be a buffet, but sometimes it’s plated service. Guests can then wind down after a day’s adventures with afternoon tea at 4pm and dinner à la carte. There are always three options on the dinner menu with one being a vegetarian dish.

Activities & Entertainment

The focus of Quark Expeditions is the wilderness outside – but that doesn’t mean their ships aren’t equipped to make life on deck entertaining too. The range of available facilities depends on the size of your ship, but there are a variety of options you may get to enjoy. Many ships will feature an observation and presentation room to soak in the surrounding views and listen to informative lectures by the Quark Expeditions team. There might also be a shopping boutique and library, a gym, or even a heated plunge pool and sauna. Quark Expeditions has teamed up with VOYA to bring you spa treatments and products on select ships, complemented by yoga and stretching classes. While on board though, make sure to take advantage of the incredible shore experiences available - kayaking, zodiac cruising, snowshoeing, hot air ballooning and cross-country skiing are just some of the adventures you can take part in.
