Rodney Russ the company founder worked for the New Zealand Wildlife Service (now Department of Conservation) as a biologist responsible for the management and conservation of rare and endangered bird species. His work took him the length and breath of New Zealand and the Sub Antarctic Islands. He left the Wildlife Service after 12 years to further his studies at University of Otago.

Welcome to Heritage Expeditions, New Zealand's award winning Expedition Travel company. Expeditions are designed to provide opportunities for people like you to visit and experience some of the most amazing wilderness and wildlife destinations. It is important that people have opportunities to visit these areas, so that they can gain a greater appreciation and awareness of the importance of them and then advocate for their continued protection.

All expeditions are meticulously planned and undertaken in such a manner so as to minimise the impact on the environment and the wildlife but at the same time maximise your opportunities for learning and enjoyment.

Today the company regularly organises expeditions throughout New Zealand, the Sub Antarctic Islands and Antarctica. It is a family run business. Rodney's wife Shirley manages the office and sometimes works as Cruise Director on the ship. Aaron their eldest son works as zodiac driver/lecturer while completing his PhD studies in zoology. Nathan who is studying to be a chef at the Christchurch Institute of Food Technology works on the ship as a chef.
